Behind the Scenes
There is a vast amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to bring the initial sketch of each garment into what becomes a beautifully finished item of clothing on the shop floor. Gabby and Emma work very closely with the factories in Bali and these photographs show some of the techniques and processes involved in this development.
One particularly interesting aspect of some styles, is seeing the workers create the raw fabrics on hand looms using cotton that has been hand dyed in advance.
Some of the fabrics are hand dyed using natural plant dyes. This process starts with the actual burning of the leaves to create the colours for the dye.
There is a lot of hand embroidery and sequin detailing which take time and care. There are many skilled workers in Indonesia who make these garments for us.
